The historic Gardner Homestead was recognized on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015. It is located 0.8 miles west of downtown Salyersville.

The emphasis for placement on the national register relates to a detailed analysis, examination, and explanation of the farm during the antebellum period. However, its rich Civil War history is also very notable. There are approximately 400 civil war era graves on the farm.

During the month of December, the farm comes alive with a magnificent Christmas display that is HUGE, free, and open to the public. It is called “Candy Cane Lane” and is accessible by driving through. Most nights Santa is there to greet visitors.
